Over the last one hundred years ACoruna has really flourished economically. Beyond its many long standing businesses, ACoruna has become the richest city in Galicia. There have been many changes since the city established an economy, one of which has been sharing administrative functions with their neighboring cities. Many manufacturing, textile, financing and technical services businesses have grown exponentially, creating a booming economy for the people of ACoruna.
The port itself has grown largely in crude oil and fresh fish imports. In the 1970's clothing stores started popping up all over the place using fresh supplies of silk and other trading commodities that were made to them through import and export trade. Following the great oil spill of the Aegean Sea, ACoruna has been using many of their resources to help boost their tourist economy. Currently there are sixty two cruise ships that come to the port every summer. To help this boost in economy, there are many airports that fly directly into the city of ACoruna with more airlines adding to the lineup every day. One thing that definitely helped to boost the tourist economy is that ACoruna has the longest promenade in all of Europe that extends the entire length of the port side of the city. The promenade runs along two beaches and also has a bike tour that runs along it. ACoruna is one of the only city in Spain where you can enjoy a surfing competition from the promenade or visit the European Football (soccer) club, both of which have brought the sporting world to the country of Spain.
